How many colleges & universities are there by student population size, i.e.
there might be 100 colleges & universities that have a student
population of 1,000 students. If possible, please include for both
2-year & 4-year colleges/universities. Thanks!Dear jancm,
Thank you for your question.
However, researching material for a quality answer is time consuming,
and I am not sure that a significant research on the (possibly)
tousands of universities and colleges could be conducted for $3.75
(the Researcher's earnings from a $5 question). You might want to
reconsider your pricing, using the pricing guide:

The place to find education statistics is the National Center for
Education Statistics, which collects information on K-12 and higher
education. The best single report is the Digest of Education
Statistics for 2001. The most-recent report was released in the
Spring of 2002.
The information that you seek is in Table 215:
NCES
"Digest of Education Statistics, 2001" -- Chapter 3. Postsecondary
Education (March 1, 2002)
http://nces.ed.gov/pubs2002/digest2001/tables/dt215.asp
This report includes 3,958 institutions of higher education, about
half of which are 2-year and half are 4-year institutions. It lists
the number of institutions and the total enrollment for these
categories:
* under 200
* 200-499
* 500-999
* 1,000-2,499
* 2,500-4,999
* 5,000-9,999
* 10,000-19,999
* 20,000-29,999
* 30,000 or more
Google search strategy:
I actually consulted an almanac first to see what the best data
sources were for higher education, then used the following Google
search:
NCES + "higher education"
